So What is Square Dancing?

Square dancing is a high energy, team-based style of dance where eight people work together to follow a series of moves called out in real time by a “caller.” Think of it like a mix between dancing, a group game, and a puzzle you solve with your friends — set to upbeat music.

You don’t need experience, rhythm, or fancy footwork. If you can walk, listen, and laugh when you mess up, you’re already halfway there.

How It Works:

  • You dance in groups of eight which is four pairs forming a square.
  • A caller gives instructions (“Dosido,” “Swing,” “Star Through,” etc.).
  • You and your square move together to complete each pattern.
  • The music keeps things lively, from modern hits to classic tunes.

It is active, social, and way more fun than people expect. Every dance feels a little different because the caller mixes up the moves, so you are always learning something new.

Why it is Fun:

  • You get to move without feeling like you are doing cardio or “performing.”
  • It’s social —> you meet lots of people your age.
  • It’s fast, funny, and full of moments where everyone cracks up.
  • You’re part of a team, and everyone helps each other out.

Square dancing is basically the ultimate group activity: zero pressure, lots of energy, and a guaranteed good time. Come join us!
